Pardon the intrusion, but I'm JDWC and I have my own thoughts on the topics covered on ESPN's Pardon the Interruption.

Headlines:

Can the Yankees catch the Red Sox?

After beating up on the Red Sox this week, the Yankees certainly look capable of catching the Sox, especially with Manny Ramirez expected to be out 7-10 days. So yes, they can. But will they? I don't think so. They won't win the division for the first time in forever, but they will win the wild card and be in the playoffs yet again.

NFL ad campaign to change image?

Nothing will change the NFL's image. Unfortunately Roger Goodell can't control all the Pacmans and Bengals of the league, and of course the Michael Vick situation didn't help. It doesn't matter what kind of new ad campaign the league is planning to put out on the market, it's still got a black eye, and there's nothing they can do about it.

Bill Cowher not coaching next year?

Why should he? He's won the Super Bowl and had a great coaching career. If he wants to be done and be with his family, then so be it. If he wants to come back, he should have no problem finding a head coaching job in the NFL.

Trailblazers already practicing?

The Trailblazers have started practice much earlier than the required date. I don't know about anyone else, but I'm extremely impressed. The team has already improved through the draft, and now they are beginning to work out early. If I'm the rest of the NBA, I'm extremely nervous about facing the improved, determined Portland team this coming season.

Has Ozzie Guillen finally lost it?

Finally? He lost it a long time ago.

Five Good Minutes:

Actually a pretty lame interview with Phil Mickelson, but I do recall one thing: Lefty predicts that the San Diego Chargers will win the Super Bowl. I don't want to give anything away because my NFL preview is coming up very soon, but I don't believe the Chargers will get it done. Another AFC team though...

Odds:

Chances that Brady Quinn is the Browns' starting QB after final preseason game? Tony Kornheiser: 70%; Dan Le Beretard:  1%

I say it's about 50%. Quinn has been the best quarterback for them in the preseason, but he also hasn't faced a first-string defense yet. As much as the other two QB's have struggled, he might get in there on luck alone, but my gut tells me Charlie Frye will be starting the season opener for Cleveland.

Is tonight Chris Simms' last game with the Bucs? Tony: 80%; Dan: 10%

I think it's around 75% unfortunately. Simms has had bad luck with the whole injury scene, because he played fairly well for them last season before getting hurt. I think he'll be let go, but he'll definitely get another chance somewhere else.

Chances that USC wins the National Championship? Tony: 60%; Dan: 20%

40%. When it's one team against the world, it's hard to give that team good odds, even if it's USC. USC is definitely the favorite, but there are so many good teams that there's a decent chance USC will lose a game and be knocked out of the National Title picture. Just a note: Another gem from Le Batard on this one, saying that the Trojans will lose two games this season (including one to the University of Nebraska...).

Chances that Team USA loses to Argentina in the FIBA playoffs? Tony: 0%; Dan: 0%

For once they are both right. No chance.

Recap:

Terry Francona was approached by a league official in the middle of the second inning of their game against the Yankees yesterday, because he had to make sure Francona was following the dress code properly. Are you kidding me? Derek Jeter was on 2nd base at the time and I'm sure the only thing Francona is focused on at the time is the game. It's ridiculous to care whether or not the manager is wearing a jersey under his jacket in the first place, but to come INTO THE DUGOUT during a game is just absurd.

The Big Finish:

Falcons ask for $20 million back from Michael Vick in letter.

Wait...they sent him a letter, requesting a check for $20 million? I understand wanting it back, but the way they're going about it is...stupid, for lack of better words. Anyone think Vick is just going to become sympathetic and bust out the checkbook? Didn't think so.

Congress looking into steroids in wrestling?

WWE? Don't even bother. But if it's real, competitive wrestling, then yes this is a problem that needs to be looked into. But by anyone other than congress. Please. We know how well they conduct these things...

Is A.L. West race over?

Yes. Angels have it all wrapped up, and I'll be amazed if the Mariners even catch the Yankees to give them a run for the wild card.

Sacramento Kings sign Kevin Martin to a 5-year, $55 million contract.

Who? Seriously, Tony Kornheiser said it as well. He doesn't know who this guy is and he didn't even know if Le Batard meant the basketball Kings or the hockey Kings. I really have never heard of Martin. Kenyon, yes. Kevin, no.

Dontrelle Willis has one win in his last 17 starts.

Willis is a very talented pitcher with nasty stuff who just consistently struggles with control this season. Let him work out in the offseason, because with the offensive talent they have, the Marlins can be a good team if their pitchers step it up. I don't know though, the way Willis hit that bomb in his last start...The next Ankiel? Hmmm.

Who wins LSU vs. Mississippi St.?

Talk about a way to waste time on the show. LSU. Easy.

Who wins Cubs vs. Brewers rubber game?

Cubs. Why? I don't know the Brewers just SUCK when Sheets doesn't pitch.
