Everyone, it's been a long time coming but we finally have the return of the Sportscolumn Monthly Sports Writing Contest. Here's how it works:

Every story submitted (except Journals) will be eligible for the Monthly Writing Contest. Every member can give each story up to 5 points. (You can find the voting console in the right column of the story page) The winner for the month is the article with the most points at the end of the Voting Period. That's it! And no waiting around for updates form me, you can find the current standings here. Please read all the details below.

The Sportscolumn Writing Contest General Rules
  • The Contest begins on the 1st of every month and ends on the last day of that month. (e.g. April 1st to April 30th). Each month represents a separate "contest".
  • Every published story on the site during the month of the contest is eligible, except for Journal Entries. So for the April Contest, any article published between 4/1/07 and 4/30/07 is eligible. There is no limit to the number of articles you have in the contest.
  • In order to give articles that are published the last week of the month a fair shake, the voting for the month doesn't end until the 7th day of the following month. (e.g. voting for the April Contest ends on May 7th)
  • By entering the contest, you agree that the management of Sportscolumn.com has final say in all matters related to the contest. You also warrant that any article submitted by you is your own original work. Any article that violates the copyright of another person or company is ineligible and contest entry will be voided. In addition, any attempts to manipulate the contest will result in a voided entry.
April Contest Prizes
  • First Prize: $100 Gift Certificate to Amazon.
  • Second Prize: Any EA Sports video game of your choice
  • Third Prize: Copy of John Feinstein's Last Dance.

You can check the current standings of the writing contest here.
