Big Ten Football Rocks!

Hey all you Big Ten bashers!  What's your problem?  You just don't like success?  Why do you keep picking on the greatest conference in college football?

Didn't you know that with 43 out of 44 non-conference games played, the Big Ten has only lost 8 games?  Of those 8, Michigan lost those two fluke games and 3 others were lost by Minnesota.  This means only 3 other teams lost a non-conference game.  Is that dominance or what?

Of course, we really should be careful about those mismatches against half-decent conferences like the Big 12.  We only played them twice, but letting Missouri (8-1) pick on poor Illinois was bad planning.  The fact that Iowa State (2-8) beat Iowa was rigged.  We all know they cheated by putting cornmeal in the Hawkeye's shoes.

Duke (1-8) was the only ACC team we played as well.  Lucky for them as we would have knocked the socks off of anyone else.  Northwestern was just making sure their record, 34-game losing streak (Division 1A) stayed intact.

As for the Michigan losses, well, it was a weird season.  Because of those, we had a 2-1 record against the PAC-10 {beating Washington (3-6) and Washington State (3-6)} and broke even (1-1) with that juggernaut Southern Conference by taking out Citadel (5-4).

We dominated everyone we played in the Big East, Colonial, Conference USA, Gateway, Great West, Mountain West, Ohio Valley & Western Athletic Conferences piling up 12 impressive victories.  Unfortunately, Minnesota is a liability this year so we had to settle for a split with the Sun Belt Conference.  Thank God Penn State was there to ensure Florida International (0-9) wouldn't make that any worse.

Our local cousins in the Mid-American Conference were our favourite targets.  The Big Ten leads 16-1 with one game left to play.  Once again, Minnesota is the black sheep of the family letting Bowling Green (5-4) get the better end.

And of course, 4-0 versus Notre Dame.  What an awesome season!

So to all you babies out there crying about how the Big Ten completely avoided the SEC, any good teams in the Big 12 and PAC-10 (Missouri and Oregon aside) and any decent teams of the ACC and Big East I say "You're delirious!".  The handwriting is clear.  

The Big Ten Rocks!

Just wait until bowl season...

you are a physical part of the Big Ten, is "we" really necessary?

get some more length and more about the teams themselves outside of Michigan...for example,Purdue is having a good season out of the Big 10, don't see them mentioned anywhere!

You don't recognize sarcasm when you see it?  It was meant to be written as someone who is "part of the Big Ten" and it was meant as a slam on the conference for playing such a weak non-conference schedule.

Purdue?  Please say you're joking.  They beat MAC schools Toledo (5-5) and Central Michigan (6-4), Eastern Illinois (6-3) from the Ohio Valley and a hapless Notre Dame team.

Thanks for killing the article because you didn't understand it, but I bet just about everyone else got the irony of it.

god, i cant believe the big ten is really that bad haha...and we did put a beating on fl international here at penn state!

With Iowa losing to a MAC school this weekend, the non-bowl, out-of-conference schedule is complete.  35-9 for the Big Ten.

The fact that only two of the teams played were ranked in the top 25 only underscores the need for reform in the way schedules are being manipulated to ensure that a team is bowl-eligible despite being less than average.  

The Big Ten is making a big deal about having 10 teams qualified for bowls, but the current system is allowing them to pad their schedule with 4 "easy" games meaning they only need to win 2 games in conference play is starting to make the whole system a joke.  

The only question is how much longer it will take the NCAA to get enough balls to stand up to (Big Ten) Commissioner Jim Delany and start requiring more responsible scheduling.

I, personally, would favour a scheme requiring any BCS conference school to play at least two of their non-league matches against other BCS conferences or Notre Dame (who in most years is not an easy win).  Although we know top teams will still try to play lesser teams from the other conferences, it still would have some effect.  I'm sure two years ago an unwitting athletic director would have scheduled Kansas thinking of them as an easy win in 2007.  Boy, would they have gotten a surprize.
