Whatever happened to Freedom of the Press?

I just had to post a quick journal entry on hearing the news that Lance Williams and Mark Fainaru-Wada are going to jail for protecting their sources in the BALCO case.  This could be the most egregious example of the government overstepping their bounds that I have ever seen.  Whether you like or dislike Barry Bonds, the question isn't about him.  How can you send two reporters to prison for protecting their sources and reporting the best story possible?  Was freedom of the press not one of the major reasons we revolted from British rule?  Is it not a fundamental American liberty?  To send these two writers to jail is an absolute outrage and supporting them should be something that all aspiring writers and fans of sport should do.

Thank you for letting me rant.

Because, excuse my french, but its f**** ridiculous that THESE guys are going to jail for that. They should be celebrated, and the juries/MLB/congress/whatever should pull their collective head out of their big hairy collective ass and charge Barry Bonds with purjury and all the other crap he did.

The liberty to express one's opinion was lost long ago.  I realize this is a sports oriented site, but George W. and his asinine head in the sand initiated this plague that has persisted the last 6 years.   The appreciable irony is that if these reporters go to jail they could share a cell with Barry Bonds' trainer, a guy who also refuses to talk to big brother.
