A sports fan's dream.....

I have a deep passion for writing and another passion for sports. It makes perfect sense for a person like me to be a sports writer. I imagine the life of a high-profile sports writer as I get older....

First of all, I need a pimp TV to watch sports. Scratch that, I need a wall of TVs and a remote that would marvel today's super computers. Every game of the day being played at my very fingertips. The ability to sway an entire nation's opinion with my own words and thoughts.

Of course, there'd be perks. I'd probably would have made good friends with all the big sports stars of today. I'd have T.O. and Yao Ming over to play a little ping pong. Maybe have Roger Clemens, David Ortiz and Albert Pujols over to play some Hungry, Hungry Hippos. Now that I mention this, don't you think T.O. and Yao Ming should be roommates for a reality TV show? Could there be a bigger personality gap between two superstar athletes? First we have T.O. who is pushing to a Muhammed Ali-like media frenzy. If he focused his energy on trash talk and general silliness, he could easily surpass him with today's huge media.

Then we have Yao Ming. A quiet, seemingly humble giant out of China. He probably speaks English to a limited degree and wouldn't be able to get a word in edge-wise with Owens. Can't you just imagine half way through the season when Yao Ming comes home after a long road trip and sees that T.O. cooked and ate all his food?

I'd imagine it'd go something like this:

"Um. Terrell... Did you eat my General Tso's Chicken?"

"Man, so what if I did? You want some money? I got plenty money. T.O. does what he wants! Yeah, I ate it and I'll eat it again! The (beep) is delicious! Ya lanky mah'(beep)a, just leave me alone with all that noise!!" door slam

Cut to Yao Ming with his mouth agape looking directly into the camera.

===========

But seriously, it's my dream to be able to be right at the source for sports. Be able to not rely on handed down bits of information from other media outlets but be directly responsible for what sports fans want to know. It'd truly be a privaledge and an honor.

Wouldn't it be great to play a pickup game of horse against LeBron and who knows, maybe even win? It's not all about the writing, but you would get to spend time with the athletes on some small degree. You could have him posted up, give him the Hakeem Olajuwon shake and lean in off the backboard for an easy bucket. That alone would top any personal story most anyone could have about their own personal sports glory.

We've all heard our friends talk about "Oh, I once scored 36 points in my high school game." or something to the effect. I'd much rather say, "Yeah, I took Tim Duncan to the hole. He couldn't do a damn thing but watch me curl past him for the lay-up." We're talking about a NBA MVP here!

All from what? The "job" of a sports writer, someone please tell me what flaw in my logic I have here because I see none!

I'm sure writers don't have that kind of relationship with athletes. Maybe if you had been particularly nice with a few of them you would, but you probably wouldn't be great friends with every superstar.

You know the definition of the word "dream" don't you? It was meant more to be humorous and light-hearted. Lighten up a tad man.

sexual favors like Ahmad Rashad did for Michael Jordan would you get to be that close to a star athlete. Like Jeff Beebe said, Writers are the enemy.
