"Steve Nash will win his second straight NBA MVP award, according to the Arizona Republic.

The newspaper cited an unnamed league source familiar with the voting who (reportedly) said the Suns point guard will become the 10th player to repeat as MVP.
Magic Johnson is the only point guard to have won the award in two consecutive seasons.

The Republic said the official announcement may not come for two weeks.

But the votes have been counted, and it appears Nash has won a close race that also included LeBron James, Dirk Nowitzki, Chauncey Billups and Kobe Bryant.

Nash, who would be the first international and the first Suns player to capture the award twice, won the fourth-closest MVP vote last year when he edged Shaquille O'Neal.

The 32-year-old Victoria, British Columbia native posted career highs this season in scoring (18.8 points per game), rebounding (4.2 per game), field goal percentage (.512) and converted 92.1 percent of his free throws to lead the NBA in that category.

He also led the league in assists again, averaging 10.5 per game, and finished sixth in three-point shooting, converting nearly 44 percent of his attempts.

Nash helped the Suns to a successful defense their Pacific Division title and a 54-28 record during the regular season."

If I were to vote, I would vote Nash too. The Suns lose Joe Johnson and Quentin Richardson. They were without Amare Stoudamire for just about the entire season. Yet, with a supporting cast of Boris Diaw and Raja Bell, Nash was still able to lead the Suns to a 2 spot in the Western Conference playoffs.

Kobe? Ballhog.
Nowitzki? Meh.
Billups? Psssh...the Pistons have 5 MVPs by my count
King James? My other choice.

Not a big Suns fan, but Nash does indeed deserve his second MVP in a row.

THOUGHTS?.........

deserved it...hands down..no questions about it..
Everyone talks about what Nash lost...big deal..what did Kobe have at all???? I have ALWAYS hated Kobe..but dang..I laughed at that Laker squad..developmental league at best! The man CARRIED that team to the playoffs and is about to show the world how you beat the Suns by yourself...The Lakers should have been at the bottom of the West, but now they're slowing showing the Suns how to choke...again...

Regualr season MVP voting (#5)

Playoffs dont count in the MVP vote.  If Kobe had played like this all season maybe LA would have had a better record. Kobe should be 3rd behind Nash and Lebron.

MVP (#10)

Is the MVP trophy an individual trophy or a team trophy? Should the number of wins determine that or how an individual player performed? Maybe I got it confused.

Kobe should have won (#8)
by XxRedFoxX on Tue May 09 2006 at 11:04 PM EST
Kobe should have won the MVP he carried his team all the way to the playoffs he also lead the NBA in scoring averaging 35 points per game not to mention his game against Toronto when he scored 81 points making him second place for the most points in one game he also scored  62 points in Dallas in 3 quaters while sitting down all of 4th quarter. Its true that Nash had to carry his team with out Amare Stoudamire also losing Quentin Richardson and Joe Johnson. But who does Kobe have Lamar Odom? Im not saying Lamar Odom is bad but Kobe basically was by himself his whole team is young at least Nash had Marion. And yes Kobe is a ballhog that I would admit but would the Lakers be in playoffs if he didnt (well not any but first round)

David Stern's Public Relations (#9)
by Anonymous Fan on Thu May 11 2006 at 8:12 PM EST
The only reason why Kobe didn't get the MVP is because Mr. Stern has been worried about how the world looks at the NBA. First he basically ordered all NBA players to where suits to the game and now this. He knows that the Kobe Bryant's rape trial is still fresh in people's minds. Even though Kobe was never found guilty, people have pronounced him guilty and hate him for it. Most of those people who hate Kobe are NBA fans and would have a field day if Kobe won the MVP title. You know and I know that Mr. Stern didn't want to deal with that. The media wouldn't stop writing stories on how an alleged rapist becomes the MVP of the NBA. Kobe had an 81 point game, a 65 point game, and over 6 50 point games in one season. What more could anybody want the man to do to earn the trophy? All these pro-Steve Nash fans need to get real and stop going with the grain (sellouts). I am a Laker fan but I can admit that the Suns team is 6 times better than the Lakers. The whole starting lineup of the Suns team can rain three pointers on you within seconds. The Lakers team can't do that. When Barbosa took Nash's place in the playoffs, the Suns played just as good or maybe even better than when Nash was in the game. Even though Nash is fast, Barbosa is faster. Ask yourself this, who can be without their star player and still win a game, the Suns or Lakers? The answer to that question should explain to you why Kobe should be the leauges MVP but he isn't due to an NBA Public Relations ploy.

good call! (#11)

It never occured to me that that was the case. How blind could I be!?! I just wish Nash wouldn't have recv'd the award..he just needs to go play soccer with all that floppin, ref ass-kissin, and fake sportsmanship...I don't like the guy.lol
