Eli isn't going anywhere soon

Not only is Eli Manning being scrutinized by the NY media but now more than ever the Giants fans seem to be getting their shots in at the number one 2004 draft pick as well.Ok, Giants fans.. Eli isn't ever going to be the next Peyton Manning or Joe Montana so quit losing sleep over it.

However, the time is now for Eli to give the Giants fans something to believe in for the years to come and for many fans, just a little bit of consistency is all they want. The only thing Eli has been consistent of up to this point, is the un bearing fact of being inconsistent.

In the latter half of the 2004 season all we heard was "Eli is a rookie, he's still learning the game, just give him time." 2005 came around, the Giants made the play offs with an impressive 11-5 record but Eli was still up and down like a roller coaster ride. He made a few nice comebacks and gave the fans some hope but here we are now, more than half way through the 2006 season and it's the same old problems just a different week.

Will Eli ever be an elite qb? Will he ever be as good as his older brother Peyton? Is this how all number one drafted qbs should be judged through out their career? Is it fair to be compared to one of the best qbs to ever play the game, regardless of the pedigree? Sure it is. After all, this is why you were picked so high at the draft, to be the next "Big Thing", fans are counting on you. It doesn't matter if your name's David Carr, Carson Palmer, or Eli Manning. You better be prepared to take the heat if you don't perform up to certain expectations.

Fortunately for Eli, there's still hope. Some of his ill advised decision making and erratic passes can still be worked upon. What he truly needs is the support of his surrounding cast. Eli isn't going anywhere soon so the team better get used to him and make the best out of it. The lackluster effort and grim emotion on the face of Plaxico Burress in most of Monday nights game against the Jacksonville Jaguars really gained nothing in a competitive sense.

The Giants are going to have to start relying on what they know they can do, and that is run the ball. Get back to the days of old when it was grinding out yards on the ground, wearing out defenses, and passing the football was an after thought. The Giants have the weapons to do just such if they just utilize them correctly. Tiki Barber and Brandon Jacobs make up a combination that any team would fear if they are just used the right way, and that is done by USING THEM IN BUNCHES.

The Problem with Eli (#1)

is that the media and Giants fans annointed him the next Montana in 2004 and it reached a fever pitch earlier this year when he came back to beat the Eagles with a stellar 4th quarter.  Now he looks like Mark Brunnel.
