Damn, this site has been real quiet lately.

[Site related] When a Recruit Goes Bad

My high school baseball coach once told me that I should always have five or six different plays in my head at any given time. He was talking about baseball situations of course, but I've taken the advice to the next level and used it in my every day life. If a person can adjust in life to the many different situations presented, that person most likely will have a pretty enjoyable life. To counter that, one of my high school teachers told me that a person never changes unless they are forced to. More often than not, the reason they finally decide to force themselves to change, is because of the aftermath of a tragic event. Wednesday's college football recruiting scandal has put a deep burn on a day previously over hyped to begin with, while the start of a new wave of recruitments set out to prove their case to coaches across the country over the next year.

Over the past few years, the Southern Illinois Salukis have become a reoccurring member of March Madness. Not only do the Salukis take their gritty defensive game into the tournament year after year, but they usually hang around in March, and they drive opponents crazy.

[College] We Are Penn State! We Are... BACK!

It all began at Indiana.

Three seasons ago, in the midst of a 4-7 campaign - the second of two straight losing seasons - a gritty Penn State defense stepped onto the field holding loosely to a 22-18 lead during the closing minutes of the fourth quarter.

A lesser known Paul Posluszny set back in his linebacker position and the underappreciated, almost unnoticed defense gave everything they could against a Hoosiers program looking for its first defeat of a Penn State team.

First and goal from the Penn State one yard line: stuffed for a loss. Repeat times two. Now, on a fourth and goal all the Hoosiers had to do was cross the goal line and they would be assured of a victory over the lowly Nittany Lions.

It never happened.

This is all starting to get very boring, very repetitive, and most off, very, very, very annoying. Everyone has seen it in the news, and it has already been said by many analysts that this may be one of the worst times in sports history. So for once, without mentioning any names, let's please talk about something other than a man and his dog fights; please let's talk about something other than a man and gambling in the NBA; and please, for God's sake, can we talk about something other than a man and steroids? As Mike, from "Mike and the Mad Dog," put it yesterday on his show, "Unless he [Bonds] comes out and says it, it shouldn't be a headline anymore, because everyone but him has already said it so it shouldn't be a headline." I couldn't agree more with Mike; thank you for finally having the balls to come out and say it.

I know this isn't exactly a sports related column, but I think it's a nice piece of work anyways. I had to write it as an essay for a class in school so it's not in my typical three-four sentence column structure format. So I will post it in my journals for anyone interested in reading my editorial on one of the most talked about days, not only in my day, but in American history.

Look around you at sporting event and you might be surprised at what you see. Yes, there is that hot guy in the stands and he has his shirt off, but what the hell is all over his chest? And more importantly, why did he just spill beer all over you and not even offer to help clean you up?
