Baseball is America's pastime. This is why I often find it extremely disappointing that the league management fails to provide a consistent level of patriotism. As you said in the article, supporting the men and women overseas has absolutely nothing to do with political ideology. MLB should forego it's PR anxiety and take a more active role, and have a less oblivious sense of it's place in American culture. To wit, this disturbing story: A year after 9/11, MLB denied many a player's request to have our country's flag imprinted on their bats, essentially saying "to get over it". Missed opportunities... I go back to the word oblivious. Selig's MLB defines it far too often. The players in this piece set examples that the league should heed.
