For any city having a sports franchise, "Bandwagon Fans" go with the territory.  When you are winning, having the whole city celebrate with the team is a great thing and adds to the atmosphere, even if some of those fans are only there during the good times.

Boston is a great sports town and your estimation of only 10% legitimate fans might be pretty low.  Many Boston stars have had difficult names including Yastrzemski, one of your greatest stars of all time, so spelling Bruschi's name wrong is hardly a big deal.

I can live with the theme to the article.  The idea's good, but it could be made more funny and less aggressive.
