I think what they've done in the offseason should give them an auspicious 2006 season. The amount of worthwhile transactions undertaken this offseason is way more than any other team in their division. They got the reigning ERA leader in Millwood, Eaton whose a decent pitcher, Wilkerson with some speed and lead-off potential, Padilla who was an all-star two years ago, and some people getting healthy from last year.

Meanwhile, Anaheim got rid of Paul Byrd, got a big whoop in Tim Salmon coming back, and got Edgardo Alfonzo for some reason. The A's did a little better, got Loaiza, Thomas (although he'll probably get injured), and have a pretty well-rounded pitching and hitting line-ups. I gotta say, I'm with ya, and hope Texas brings home the division title.

I think the A's did more than just get a little better. They added Esteban Loiaza, Milton Bradley, and Frank Thomas and lost nothing. You can make an outstanding case that they have the best team in the American League on paper. The Rangers improved and the Angels got a little worse. Oakland could win 100 games and should run away with this division.
