He said the right thing (#3)

I agree with what Jason Taylor said. Someone who is caught taking performance enhancing drugs, should not win any awards in the same season. It is disappointing that it was Jason Taylor who had to say it. Since he is also in the running as defensive player of the year. He should have kept his mouth shut, and hoped someone else would bring it up.

I agree with you wholeheartedly (#4)

That it shouldn't have been Jason Taylor who said it.

But then answer me all of this:

Should the sacks Merriman recorded be erased from the record books?
Should he not receive the sack leader title at the end of the season?
When it's all said and done and his career is over would you still deny him an all-time-sack title?

Should the wins the Chargers recorded due to his sacks and FF be erased?
Can Merriman win Defensive MVP next year?
Can Merriman ever win it?

..that those who voted against my article did so because they do not think it is presented well and not because they disagree with my stand on this controversial topic.

Good questions (#6)

Do you agree that somebody should have said it? just not Jason Taylor

None of his sacks should be taken away, he can have the title of this season's sack leader, and I would not deny him all-time sack leader if he reaches that point. Who knows how many of those he made while taking performing enhancing drugs. You cannot prove that one way or another.

As far as winning awards next year, he should be able to. As far as I know, you have to continue to take steriods for their effect to remain. Merriman is a great guy and I would love to have him on my team, but he made a mistake and should not be able to win awards this year.

Better Question :] (#7)
by nanallday on Sun Dec 31 2006 at 9:54 PM EST
As much as I love Merriman, I will have to be honest.

I agree that somebody should've said it and just not Jason Taylor.  I do think that based on his selection to the Pro-Bowl, however, that either the NFL doesn't care.

The players don't care, the media doesn't care, and perhaps (perhaps!) the fans don't care.  (Only because basically all fan voting is nulled by media and players if the two agree.)

I know as much as anyone else that Merriman won't win, but I do protest Taylor winning because of his comments.

Before the comments?  Sure.  Give it to him.  But I'd rather see someone else get it now - someone who can be a better role model.
