oops, forgot to post my one criticism:

"Until 2004, Red Sox fans had watched our team implode in the postseason on a similar scale as Oakland has."

Um, shouldn't it be "their team?" You refer to it in the 3rd person, then include yourself. This is awkward to the reader.

Other than that, great article.

Thanks for the comment. You are right, grammatically speaking it should be "their" team, but it is hard for me when I write in a personal tone to disconnect myself from the legions of Red Sox Nation. Maybe I should have said "We Red Sox fans have watched our team..."
