The Chargers’ terrible move

By Joshua M. Boraz

As a fan, I am a band wagon jumper. I did not root for the Chicago Bears because I grew up in Chicago from 0-8. I don’t root for the New England Patriots and Boston Red Sox because I lived in New Hampshire and went to UNH from 17-22. I don’t root for the Atlanta Hawks because I reside in Milledgeville, Georgia and Atlanta is the cloest city. If I root for a team, I do it because I like the moves they made in the off-season, regular season and their overall general direction that they take with their franchise.

3 Funerals and a Status Quo

For everyone with a weak stomach or weak knees, this is not your entry. Come back when your team makes a great move. You can be sure this is the place for it.

Today, I’m going to be talking some smack about some of the recent hires in the NFL. By the end of it, some of you will wanna kick me in the throat. Some of you will want to rip my fingers off and feed them to the wolves. Some of you will swear up and down and post comments saying that I’m wrong, that I’m a terrible person for thinking so-and-so is going to be bad at his new coaching gig. But I want to say up front, I’m not wishing for them to do badly; it’s just that I think they’re going to be bad, and I think I’m going to be right.

But I make some points, and I’ll give you several reasons why I think the way I do on each of the following topics, and hopefully that will be enough to get you to keep coming back here…

Breaking down Bill Parcells

If you turn on your television or radio on Monday, January 22, 2007 to ESPN or FOX Sports Radio or TSN or your local sports affiliate, you will hear the talking heads say the following four things:

“Bill Parcells was tired and wasn’t getting any joy from winning so he retired” , “The next head coach of the Dallas Cowboys could from college or pros but already has head coaching experience (ala Norv Turner, Charlie Weis, Bob Stoops, Jeff Fisher, et al…)”, “Bill Parcells is a Hall of Fame coach and the Dallas Cowboys are better off now then they were when he first arrived after 3 consecutive 5-11 seasons”, and “I was surprised to hear this and so were several players in the locker room”.

Who to pick when dealing with Vick?

 Right now, I’m heaving a large sigh….

Why?

Because Michael Vick is killing Arthur Blank and the Atlanta Falcons.

I say Arthur Blank because he’s really the one who matters with these incidents. He’s the Home Depot good humanitarian who is the extremely high profile owner of the Atlanta Falcons. He’s the one who pushed Michael Vick in the wheel chair. He’s a great guy. Do a google search on Arthur Blank and you’ll see nothing but good works for the community from a great guy.

Blah, blah, blah, nothing interesting another executive who works for the United Way….yawn, it’s all gravy… At some point it gets nauseating, but Arthur Blank (himself) is not really at that point. The Atlanta Falcons (particularly Michael Vick) have a different diagnosis, don’t they?

Wait, what’s this: Michael Vick and The Atlanta Falcons lose to the Browns and Lions in consecutive weeks where Vick plays extremely badly? Oho, what’s this Michael Vick flipped off the fans? Did Jim Mora Sr. just say that Michael Vick is a coach killer? Did Jim Mora Jr. just say that he wanted to coach Seattle and isn’t he the coach of the Atlanta Falcons? Is that Michael Vick telling sources last year at the Pro Bowl that he’s not comfortable with the offense?

The definitive Lane Kiffin Evaluation

A BRIEF HISTORY LESSON FIRST:

It has become very fashionable for people to turn down the Raiders coach since Jon Gruden and former GM Bruce Allen left. Since owner Al Davis usually doesn’t give good recommendations, so once Bruce Allen landed with friend Jon Gruden he promptly returned volley on Al Davis and slammed the Oakland Raiders whenever he got the chance.

Al Davis in his own Oakland Raiders dimension, thought that it didn’t matter what the current GM of the Tampa Bay Bucs said about him and didn’t return volley.

In the meantime, Bruce Allen went on slamming the organization every chance he gets. It doesn’t help that the Raiders continued to lose and Jon Gruden won the Super Bowl the next time. So all the GM brethren (led by Bruce Allen) aren’t afraid to tell their assistants, current coaches, and media that the Raiders job is the worst job in sports and TSN isn’t afraid to print a story in their magazine that the Raiders Job is the worst in sports.

It didn’t help that Al Davis turned to Art Shell or Tom Walsh (icons from before I was born which is sad).  That perpetuated the myth that Al Davis is an old stick in the mud.
