2012 NFL Week 4 Picks and Podcast

Dear refs: Welcome back… welcome backs… welcome back. It’s so nice of Goodell to be completely honest with the fans and say that the Monday Night Football debacle had nothing to do with the timing of the labor agreement.

Dear refs: Welcome back… welcome backs… welcome back. It’s so nice of Goodell to be completely honest with the fans and say that the Monday Night Football debacle had nothing to do with the timing of the labor agreement. Sure, Roger, and there’s a fat out of shape quarterback named Jamarcus we’d like to sell you.

Anyway, we’re the replacement games are done and we’re back to normal. Now when your team loses because they suck, there’s nobody to blame except your crappy team.

Locks of the Week

Vegas Vinny: (1-1-1, Balance=$1,045) Pete Carroll did a great job last week. Of pretending in interviews that he actually believed there was simulaneous posssession and that his team did not, in fact, receive a gift win from the officials. They receive another gift this week from the NFL in the form of the St. Louis Rams. The injury to Stephen Jackson further hampers a very weak Rams offense that can’t seem to get started at all against any team with an actual defense. And the Seattle defense is one of the best. This could be a bloodbath. I’ll put $110 on the Seahawks (+1) to win $100.

BostonMac: (2-1, Balance=$995) What do these names have in common? Shane Vereen, Julian Edelman, Aaron Hernandez, Justin Francis, Kyle Love, Rob Gronkowski, Sterling Moore, Sebastian Vollmer, Logan Mankins, Brandon Deaderick, Alfonzo Dennard, Tom Brady, and Nick McDonald? If you answered that they were all Mitt Romney’s rejected VP nominees, you are incorrect. If you said they are the Patriots injury list for Sunday, give yourself a gold star. The Pats have lost two straight, they are banged up, and they’re on the road in Buffalo where they lost last year and have traditionally struggled to win. Everyone thinks the Patriots can’t lost three straight? They’re wrong. I’m going to put $330 to win $300 that BUFFALO (+4) takes this one home and sends New England to 1-3. Super Bowl loser hangover continues

RJ: (1-2, Balance=$940) $550 to win $50 on Titans (+12)The Houston Texans of American Football have been climbing mountains for the first ten years of their existence, and I’ve been there to doubt them every step of the way. Always called them to lose whatever “Biggest Game In The History Of The Franchise” they were playing against the Colts or other AFC Powerhouse. Last week, I thought they would go meekly in a Huge Road Test at Mile High against a Veteran Quarterback Who Has Their Number. This week, it’s another tough task of Handling Their Business As Huge Home Favorites Without Looking Forward To a Tough Stretch Of Games Against Formidable Opponents.

Now, I have very little doubt that the Texans handle said business with a victory, but between the possible let down after Denver and the Jets, Ravens and Packers looming in prime time plus a bye, there’s a great chance for a clunker against the plucky Titans. And by plucky, I mean mediocre all-around team that is nowhere near in class as the Texans. But, what the Titans and Jake Locker can do is score, and I like them to be able to keep pace with Houston in an unpredictable division game. So, the Texans roll to 4-0, but the TITANS (+12) Get the Vegas win. $55/50.

Burton: (0-3, Balance=$505) $505 on Falcons (-7) Can I Trevor this thing? All in on the Falcons (-7) to pummel Carolina like Carolina is the Eagles and the Falcons are whoever is playing the Eagles for the rest of the season.

Mike: (1-1, Balance=$995) HOMER ALERT. Yea I know I’m picking my team in a critical divisional/rivalry game, but hear me out: the Giants finally seem to be firing on all cylinders. Andre Brown has provided them with some semblance of a rushing attack, which they really haven’t had in 2 years. Eli is being, well… Eli, and is continuing to find new weapons on offense (i.e. Martellus Bennett, Ramses Barden). The defense is actually (kinda) healthy and playing more like a cohesive unit. On the flip side, the Andy Reid refuses to use the most dynamic running back in the NFL (this should be on Unsolved Mysteries), thereby making his vulnerable quarterback throw the ball 40+ times a game behind a shaky O-line. As you would expect, Vick has turned the ball over at a high rate, negating any success the defense has had. Not to mention that fact that the Giants play better on the road, and it’s the Eagles.

But since this is my lock of the week, don’t be surprised if Andy Reid either, a) grows a brain b) forgets he has an ego or c) gets Coach Kilmer’d at halftime and LeSean McCoy rushes the ball 40 times for 200+ yds and the Eagles roll at home..

Oh well, the damage has already been done, $55 to win $50 on New York (+2)

Trevor: (1-1, Balance=$0) 49ers. All-in.
