Week 6 2007 NFL Picks and Podcast

After a horrible week 4, we rebounded a little bit with an above average showing in week 5. We’ll keep the trend going this week, even if all the games in the NFL seem to suck lately… but you can hear us bitching about that on the podcast

The featured games this week are Redskins at Packers, Titans at the Bucs, Texans at Jaguars, and the Patriots at the Cowboys. You can download the podcast directly (running time 70 mins) or subscribe to the feed.

Locks of the Week

[Editor’s Note: This year, we’re making the Locks of the Week a little more interesting as we have a side bet amongst the four experts. The person with the most money at the end of the year in Locks betting takes home all the money. Disclaimer: The amounts discussed are for illustrative and entertainment purposes only. Vegas Vinny: I am doing just horribly with my Locks so far this year. I might have to fire myself from this podcast. But, I think I have a solution to my woes this week. When you are having a bad stretch and you need a win, who do you hope to see on your list of opponents? That’s right, the NY Jets. Andy Reid is 8-0 after a bye week. He’s not a good game day coach but he sure can get the troops prepared for the game after a bye. The Eagles have also never lost to the Jets.

Philly doesn’t have Lito Sheppard or Brian Dawkins but the defense isn’t the problem. The problem is the putrid offense that gave up 12 sacks agains the Giants two weeks ago. A little more rest for McNabb and the possibility of the Westbrook rejoining the team has me thinking this will be a pretty easy game for the birds. The Eagles are still a bad football team but they haven’t reached NY Jets levels of suck and only giving 3 points, even on the road, is a blessing. I’m putting $110 to win $100 on the Eagles (-3). (Balance = $875)

BostonMac: Like I said on the podcast, I have a few rules of gambling, and one of them is that when a team is giving more points than it scored in the previous week, you have to take the points, even when said underdog is the winless St. Louis Rams. I’ve hit on all my locks this year so far (knock on wood), but I’m going to mix it up and go for the rare backdoor cover. I’ll take the Ravens to win, but there’s no way they’re winning by 10 points. A Rams offense that put up 31 points last week is good for at least one touchdown and probably something more like 10 points this week. The Ravens’ putrid offense will be lucky to put up 14-16. I’ll put $55 to win $50 on ST LOUIS (+9.5) to cover against Baltimore.
(Balance = $1300)

Trevor F: After a two week hiatus, I am back on the Titans bandwagon. I cannot
believe they are getting points against Tampa Bay. Not only do I think
the Titans will win this game, I think it might get ugly. Tennessee is
right behind New England, Indy and Pittsburgh in the more powerful AFC.
The Titans could easily be undefeated right now as they were one dropped
pass away from kicking a winning field goal. On the flip side, Tampa Bay
is not a good football team with Cadillac and Luke Petitgout done for the
year. Indy lambasted them last Sunday and Tennessee will grind them this
week. The Titans (+3) win going away. $55 to win $50.

(Balance = $1145)

RJ Warner: With the possible exception of the Colts, the. Patriots are two touchdowns better than any team in the league. That includes the. Cowboys. To say Dallas was lucky to leave Buffalo still undefeated might be the understatement of the year. Despite our discussion on parody in the NFL, I think the Patriots are going to be historically great this season. Not only will they threaten the 1998 Vikings for most points scored, they might set a new standard for point differential. This game is getting a lot of hype, but any AFC-NFC matchup will be a letdown. This will be no different. Any time you see New England giving less than ten points, jump on it. I won’t pass this up. Dallas, coming off a short week, will be rubbing that lucky star that they’ll be handed only their first loss. I’m not afraid to put $110 on this one. Patriots (-6)
(Balance = $1040)

Wow I was way off. New England is THREE Td’s better than anyone. What a cigar game that was.

Oh, I think I meant parity.

Or Did I?
