30 Reasons to Watch the NBA in 2007

The Best Storylines Going into the All-Star Break

Now that the NFL season has come to a close, I can really focus on some basketball.  And since I had so much success with this article NFL style, I figured, why not give a NBA version a try.  Well, from what the little bit I’ve watched, the 2006-07 NBA season is already shaping up to be a doozy.  The usual powerhouses are dominating and the usual losers are, you guessed it, still stinking it up every other night.  But beyond that, some things have been flying under the radar.  But that’s what you have me for, so here we go…

  1. Miami Heat – Watching the Heat is like watching the “Dwyane Wade Free Throw Shooting Instructional Video”, sorry but I can’t stomach anymore of it.
  2. Dallas Mavericks – I get a free pass to hop on their band wagon anytime I want to, mainly because I picked them to beat the Heat last year in the finals.  So move over so I can cheer for this team when it’s convenient for me…
  3. Detroit Pistons – I’m glad to see Detroit’s favorite son Chris Webber back home, however, I would not be glad to see this team in the playoffs.
  4. Phoenix Suns – If you want to crown them, go ahead and crown them, but you might want to take a look at their record against the West’s other top four teams (1 – 7).
  5. New Jersey Nets – I still think Jason Kidd is the best point guard in the NBA, too bad he’s on a team with two of the most injury prone players in the league.
  6. San Antonio Spurs – The average age of Spurs players hovers around 29 years old, but watching them you think you slipped into the old set shot days of the league.
  7. Cleveland Cavaliers – We are all witnesses… Yeah, to LeBron’s “senior slump”
  8. Los Angeles Clippers – Talk about a tease.  The Clips made big strides last season, but they seem to be slipping right back into that pool of mediocrity.
  9. Chicago Bulls – I really think the Bulls are going to surprise a lot of people and make it to the second round of the playoffs.  You heard it here first…
  10. Memphis Grizzlies – How can a playoff team from a year ago fall off this much?  Oh well, can you say Greg Oden?
  11. Milwaukee Bucks – Michael Redd is the KG of the Eastern conference.  Hey, maybe the NBA should put the two of them together.
  12. Los Angeles Lakers – Okay, I don’t think a person who has two personalized Laker jerseys that read “Kobe Lover” and “Kobe Is GOD” can truly write anything about the Lakers without his true purple & gold showing…
  13. Indiana Pacers – I think the Pacers are still in shock of Reggie Miller retiring, don’t believe me?  Next Pacer game you watch, look at coach Rick Carlisle’s face.
  14. Sacramento Kings – I hear that Ron Artest is looking to get out of Sac Town, but why would he want to leave a team that boasts such names as Vitaly Potapenko and Ronnie Price?
  15. Washington Wizards – Hibachi!!!
  16. Denver Nuggets – AI and Melo are trying to coexist.  I hear George Karl is going to submit a petition to allow his team to play three balls, one for Melo, one for AI, and one for them not to defend.
  17. Charlotte Bobcats – I like this team to make some serious noise in the college basketball March Madness tournament… Oh wait, they’re professionals now.
  18. New Orleans/Okalahoma City Hornets – When Chris Paul went down, I lost all interest in this team.  He’s back now but…I don’t think so.
  19. Philadelphia 76ers – How do you think Kevin Durant will look in that Sixer blue?
  20. Seattle Sonics – This team doesn’t even know if they are going to have a city to call home from week to week, why watch that?
  21. Toronto Raptors – Andrea Bargnani is actually outdoing my original expectations.  Not to mention that the Raptors are in playoff contention.  And oh yeah, doesn’t Chris Bosh look like a raptor?
  22. Houston Rockets – I look at the Rockets and only dream about what could have been…
  23. Boston Celtics – I honestly could not think of a reason to watch the Celtics, nor could I come up with a clever remark about them. Oh wait, watch the Celtics to see how many times their fans cheer their hearts out for opposing teams…
  24. Minnesota Timberwolves – I really feel bad for KG, especially when I hear the so called experts and pundits say that he’s overrated.  Watch the T-Wolves to support one of the leagues’ most talented players EVER.
  25. New York Knicks – Well, you can watch the Knicks for one of two reasons, either you want to laugh at how bad they are, or you want to be amazed at how good they could be.
  26. Utah Jazz – A lot of people don’t pay attention to the Jazz, I don’t know why, they are only 31 – 17 and pushing for a three seed in the West…
  27. Atlanta Hawks – I hope money really is worth that much to Joe Johnson, because the Hawks are terrible.
  28. Golden State Warriors – As if one ignoramus in Oakland (Randy Moss) wasn’t enough, now Stephen “Big Lip Bandit” Jackson is there to aid in the criminal debauchery.
  29. Orlando Magic – Dwight Howard is finally coming into his own and dominating games on both ends of the court.
  30. Portland Trailblazers – This team is abysmal overall, Randolph and Roy are bright spots, but I recommend that you do not watch the Blazers.

I agree with you… Jason Kidd is still one of the best guards today. I also agree that because of the injuries that the Nets have been faced with, they have not been able to be as productive as they could be.

Jason Kidd? I respect the choice but are you forgetting about Steve Nash? Put him on any team in the league and they win 20 more games.  Part of being the best PG is being on the floor, and Kidd can’t stop getting hurt.  I think Billups, Paul, and Bibby are better than Kidd to be honest.  Good article though.
