Week 2 Bets (The Rebound)

Wow!  Not quite what I had expected.  Week 1 was filled with some strange and peculiar outcomes.  Some of you (and you know who you are) are probably pretty excited about the mediocrity that I displayed, but rest assured, this is only the beginning.  Explain to me one thing, though, what happened to the Jets?  Yes the Chiefs rebuilt their defense, but come on, it’s still the Chiefs.  And for you Steelers fans – my apologies.  Big Ben clearly is not going to suffer from the “sophomore slump”.Kansas City Chiefs (-1) @ Oakland Raiders ($100)     The Chiefs performed admirably last week while the Raiders, well, looked down-right ugly.  Oakland is once again matched up against a vastly superior team.  The raiders will look better than they did against the Pats but the Chiefs will win this one fairly easily.

Atlanta Falcons (+1) @ Seattle Seahawks ($100)     Seattle plays much better football at home, and as much as it kills me to say this (I do like the Seahawks), the Falcons will undoubtedly swoop into Qwest Field and devour the Seahawks.  Atlanta showed last Monday night that they are a genuine contender this year.

Jacksonville Jaguars @ Indianapolis Colts (-9) ($100)     The Colts easily figured out the “devastating” Baltimore defense last week and will have absolutely no problems this week.  Peyton Manning is the man – enough said.

Detroit Lions (-1.5) @ Chicago Bears ($100)     The Bears are a disgrace.  They would have a tough time beating any collegiate team in the Top 25.  Luckily for them, though, the Lions are only an average team.  Detroit wins this but with a struggle.

New England Patriots (-3) @ Carolina Panthers ($100)     I couldn’t quite figure out why people were picking the Panthers to go to the Super Bowl.  Granted their loss last week to the Saints might have had more to do with the Saints playing with such intense emotion, but they just didn’t look that good to me.  Besides, the Patriots are STILL the Champs and STILL the team to beat.  They should win this game by at least a touchdown.

Pittsburgh Steelers (-6) @ Houston Texans ($100)     Again, I apologize to any and all Steelers fans.  I won’t make that mistake again.  Pittsburgh will man-handle these Texans while Big Ben shows us all again that he is for real.

San Diego Chargers (+3) @ Denver Broncos ($100)     San Diego will recover from last weeks close loss to the Cowboys.  Not quite sure what was wrong with Denver last week, but I think it’s time for coach Shanahan to quietly ride off into the sunset.  The Chargers will embarrass the Broncos and win in resounding fashion.

St. Louis Rams (+1) @ Arizona Cardinals ($100)     Yes, I know, the Rams lost to the lowly 49ers last week, but to be the underdogs against the Cardinals?  Who made this line?  St. Louis walks all over Arizona this weekend.  No question.

Washington Redskins @ Dallas Cowboys (-6) ($100)     Bledsoe had a great game against the Chargers so expect him to do the same against the Redskins.  Washington is a joke and will have another awful and embarrassing year.  As much as I would like to see Gibbs be back on top, it’s just not going to happen this year.  Besides, the Cowboys on Monday Night Football always bring their “A” game.

Last Week’s Results:       3 – 3   (Even $$)
YTD Results:           3 – 3   (Even $$)

Good luck, and remember, gambling is vital to the health of sports fans everywhere!!

Impressive You owned up to your less than stellar picks last week, which is not always easy to do. I contended with you last week, but I was wrong too, so I’m not happy that you failed. I don’t want you to lose money if you are actually betting on these games! Week one is always tough to call, but things tend to settle down pretty quickly. I like most of your picks this week, with the possible exception of Indianapolis manhandling the Jaguars. While I do think Indy will win, the Jaguars are no joke, and beat the Colts in Indianapolis last year. The spread is huge, and most NFL games are closer. I think the Colts win by a touchdown or less. Other than that, though, I’d say you are right on this week, and I’m confident we’ll both do better!

Thanks I appreciate the positive remarks.  Although I do actually wager on these games, I personally had a little more success as a result of some games that I didn’t talk about last week.  I wish you the best of luck in your picks.  Thanks.

Uh oh If you thought your picks last week were bad, then this week will have you pulling your hair out (at least that’s what I’m doing, since I agreed with most of them!) At least I got the Jacksonville cover right. Tough week though, parity is a %#$*@

if picking games were easy we’d all be rich.  The best bettors against the line  do about 55% right. Sounds easy but think about how hard that is.  If Leftwich loses that fumble, then Indy goes up 13-3 and they cover.
