Buh Bye Eddie

Is anyone surprised that Eddie George is no longer a Titan? No? Didn’t think so.

As I said before, this is Eddie’s chance to get out of the NFL with some dignity. This is his “year too early”. But that isn’t going to happen. What might happen – at least if there is any Reason in the universe?Patriots

George would be a better fit for NE than Corey Dildo. If they’re going to overpay for a washed up back, they’d be miles better off with George. Even if they insist on keeping Corey Dildo, they’d still be better off with George in the line up. Because George is not only a better runner than Dildo, but would give a boost to the passing game, too.

In fact, George is such a drastically better fit, that it would be a smart move to both pick him up and kick Corey Dildo to the curb. Yeah, they invested a 2nd rd pick in the jerk, but cutting their losses now, instead of letting him become a festering wound, would be very smart.

Broncos

Denver could use him as an outlet to the passing game and a change of pace. Denver may even be the only place George could go with any expectation of putting up the kind of numbers that would justify him getting starting money and a starter’s carries. But how could Denver pay him? They had to squirm and wiggle just to make room to sign their rookies.

NJ Jets

He’d be a great fit for the NJ Jets, who are in desperate need of offensive firepower and have no depth at the RB position.

Steelers

Oh how the Steelers could use him. Staley and Bettis? Puhleeeeeeez. Jerome would find himself in retirement by the middle of preseason action.

Dolphins

Ricky Williams’ numbers from last year weren’t much better than Eddie’s. The two of them would complement each other very nicely in Miami.

Cowpatties

Dallas is a good fit, they have one quality rookie and then nuthin’. But they’ve already said they aren’t interested (perhaps because George has too little left in him to take a pounding on a turf field and still be worth a damn for a whole season).

Cardinals

He’d be a great fit for the Cardinals, and would probably cause Emmitt to be cut early in the preseason.

Lions

Even with Kevin Jones coming in, George would be attractive to Detroit, because Bryson and Gary both underwhelmed last season.

Rams

As with Emmitt in AZ, and Bettis with the Steelers, Eddie could probably put the end to Faulk with the Rams. But, if they aren’t willing to let Marshall go, then the pick up of Steven Jackson would make George a wasted roster spot.

Eddie Last time I checked EDDIE is not offensive firepower. He’s a tough between the tackles veteran grinder at this point. His numbers are underwhelming lately.

Look for him in EAGLES green.

Eddie As a runner I agree. As I said, the Jets also need depth at RB and Eddie has still been putting up numbers comparable to Curtis Martin. The two would give NJ a level of consistancy they lacked last year.

However, Eddie is still excellent catching the ball out of the backfield. And that is where my opinion that he would add offensive firepower comes from.

In this case, as with Denver, it’s his ability to catch the ball that is the more important factor in is potential value to the team.

Really necessary? C’mon… “Cowpatties?” “Corey Dildo?” Stuff like that just distracts from what you’re really writing about…

My God YES I understand your point and I appreciate your input.

The beauty of blog writing (as opposed to “real” sports writing), is that I get to write as a fan. I don’t expect to ever have an opportunity to write a for pay column, so I’m going to indulge my fannish inclinations — unless editor / vin smacks me down on it.

Not everyone will like or appreciate that. Some people will hate it. I understand that I can’t please everyone.

I still hope you’ll come back, and I thank you for taking the time to comment.

no respect for Eddie If you watched Eddie George pound the Ravens defense last year in the playoffs, you could see he is still a valuable football player.  Yes he is not what he once was and probably should be sharing the load with another RB, but he brings a football team so many of the intangibles needed to win.  Here is a guy who has never missed a start and has gotten 1000 yards every year, why are you so quick to push him out of the league?  I think he would be a great fit in Philly or Dallas.  What better mentor could Julius Jones have?  In the right situation, Eddie could still be a valuable RB in the NFL.

True You’re right, Eddie doesn’t get much love, and in the right situation he could still contribute.

He’d be a better addition to Dallas. His contribution in Philly would be minimal.

looks like Dallas It looks like Dallas is going to give George a try, according to ESPN.  I guess we will see if he has any left in the tank.

News I just heard that story. It had George ready to sign a deal worth 1.5 mil plus incentives this yr; a two yr deal with an out for George the second yr.

But, not five minutes later I heard that both Dallas and Philly had both denied having any interest in him.

I suppose I should just be happy that there is NFL news right now, even if it is contradictory.
